Episode 5 of my Thanksgiving series is a savory & sweet twist on a classic stuffing dish. I love experimenting with what I add to my holiday stuffing & this has been a favorite ingredient combination the last few years! 🦃
1. Preheat oven to 350F. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sweet sausage until thoroughly browned. Remove and set on a paper towel lined plate.
2. In the same skillet, add the 3 tbsp of butter and melt until frothy, and add the onion, celery, minced garlic and mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 5 mins until tender, then add the Bosc pears, cook for an additional few minutes.
3. In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread, cooked vegetables & pear, along with the cooked sausage and fresh herbs. Begin by adding 2 cups of chicken or vegetable stock and stir to combine before deciding if you need to add more, adding only 1/3 cup at a time if so. You want to reach a moist consistency that is not too soggy, the bread needs to maintain its cubed shape.
4. Transfer to a greased baking dish and seal with foil to bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until top is crusty and golden brown. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
