A delicious combination of sweet french toast casserole and waffles, perfect for the holidays or a special breakfast. This strata uses toasted frozen waffles, maple breakfast pork, and an egg custard, baked until golden brown.
1. Begin by toasting your waffles. You can use a toaster/toaster oven, or simply bake at 400F for 5 minutes, flip waffles and bake an additional 5 minutes. Remove from oven and cut with a dough/pizza cutter in 8 small pieces.
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown your sausage until thoroughly cooked through. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl combine eggs, heavy cream, butter, maple syrup, cinnamon and vanilla. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
4. If baking the same morning, preheat oven to 375 F. In a greased casserole dish, add your waffle pieces, sausage and pour egg mixture over top. Use a large spoon to gently mix until all waffle pieces are soaked in the egg wash.
5. Cover and let sit to soak for at least 30 minutes or in the refrigerator overnight. Bake for 25-30 minutes covered in foil and an additional 10 minutes uncovered until golden brown. Enjoy!
